Rep. Walter "Freedom Fries" Jones Says Cheney Will Go To Hell For Iraq War

Hilarious:
Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) suggested on Saturday that former Vice President Dick Cheney will have to answer in the afterlife for his role in taking the country to war with Iraq.

"Congress will not hold anyone to blame," Jones said during a speech in Raleigh, N.C. "Lyndon Johnson's probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War, and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney."

The remark drew a round of applause from the audience. Jones was speaking at a conference held by Young Americans for Liberty, a group founded after former Ron Paul's 2008 presidential run. Jones also expressed regret during the speech for his vote in support of the Iraq War in 2003. He is widely remembered for his efforts in the leadup to the Iraq War to change the name of french fries to "freedom fries" in the House of Representatives cafeteria.
An example of the deep fryer calling the pressure cooker black? Perhaps. But at least Jones appears to have changed his mind with regard to the Iraq Debacle. Cheney still thinks the invasion and occupation was the greatest idea evah, as does John McCain apparently.

If This Doesn't Sum Up The Last Four Years . . .

. . . then I don't know what does:
A new Washington Post poll finds that 70% of Americans said they would support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, including 60% of Republicans.

But when the same question was asked of a separate sample of respondents, this time with Obama's name attached to it, support dropped to 59% overall and just 39% among Republicans.
The most hilarious part of all this is that Republican hatred of Obama will force the GOP to oppose immigration reform, meaning that they'll even get less of the Latino vote in the next election.

Former Fourth-Rate VP Criticizes Obama's "Second Rate" Nominees (With Update)

Via Fox News:
Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Saturday night that President Barack Obama has jeopardized U.S. national security by nominating substandard candidates for key cabinet posts and by degrading the U.S. military.

"The performance now of Barack Obama as he staffs up the national security team for the second term is dismal," Cheney said in comments to about 300 members of the Wyoming Republican Party.

Cheney, a Wyoming native, said it was vital to the nation's national security that "good folks" hold the positions of secretary of state, CIA director and secretary of defense.

"Frankly, what he has appointed are second-rate people," he said.
OK, let me see if I've got this straight: Obama nominates two decorated combat veterans for national security posts, and our draft-dodging piece-of-shit former VP -- who fully backed the Iraq Debacle and probably committed treason when he outed CIA agent Valerie Plame -- thinks that these guys are second-rate.

Well, at least Cheney can claim -- despite all his failures -- that he did elevate douchebaggery to an art form.

UPDATE:  I miss Jon Stewart's Cheney impersonation:

Quote of the Week

"I'd like to say more, but my lawyers advised me to hold off until they're done laughing their asses off."
- Bill Maher, in response to Donald Trump filing a $5 million "breach of contract" action against him, a lawsuit which Trump feels is a valid claim because he -- The Donald -- has proven through the release of his short-form birth certificate that "he is not the love child of an orangutan."

God answered my prayers on this one.

GOP On The Verge Of Civil War . . .

. . . and I can hardly wait:
The biggest donors in the Republican Party are financing a new group to recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts who Republican leaders worry could complicate the party’s efforts to win control of the Senate.

The group, the Conservative Victory Project, is intended to counter other organizations that have helped defeat establishment Republican candidates over the last two election cycles. It is the most robust attempt yet by Republicans to impose a new sense of discipline on the party, particularly in primary races. ***

The effort would put a new twist on the Republican-vs.-Republican warfare that has consumed the party’s primary races in recent years. In effect, the establishment is taking steps to fight back against Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations that have wielded significant influence in backing candidates who ultimately lost seats to Democrats in the general election.
So Republican Super-Pacs are going to be spending a metric fuck-ton of money attacking each other. I like it.

Quote Of The Week

"There are some people in politics and in the press who can't be confused by the facts. They just will not live in an evidence-based world. And that's regrettable. It's regrettable for our political system and for the people who serve our government in very dangerous, difficult circumstances."
- Hillary Clinton.

This Photo Is Obviously A Fake (With Update)

It's pretty clear to me that the Obama people merely photoshopped the President's head onto a picture of someone else skeet shooting. The NRA is going to have a field day with this:

I haven't seen anything this fake since Obama released his long-form birth certificate. Prior to that, you have to go all the way back to the release of his short-form birth certificate to see something as fraudulent.

UPDATE:  The White House already has a name for people who don't believe Obama has ever fired a gun -- they're called "Skeeters."

If Obama Is A Socialist As Republicans Claim . . .

. . . then yay socialism!
U.S. stocks rallied Friday, with the Dow breaking above 14,000 for the first time since October 2007, as investors welcomed a batch of strong economic data. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped more than 150 points, or 1.1%, to hit 14,015.27, its highest since Oct. 15, 2007. The Dow is now less than 200 points from its all-time high of 14,198.10.
