"The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war."

President George W. Bush, from remarks made at Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. on September 17, 2001.
"[I]t would be a huge mistake for we, as Americans, to assume that this represents some kind of--or should lead us to some kind of condemnation of Islam. That's clearly not the case. This is a perversion, if you will, of some of these religious beliefs by an extremist group. We have extremists associated with, you know, every imaginable religion in the world.
But this is by no means a war against Islam."

Vice-President Dick Cheney, on Sept. 16, 2001.
"We are not at war with Islam. We are at war with people who have perverted Islam."

Lots of people picking up this angle on the whole thing. It is truly amazing that the exact same words spoken by 2 (or more) different people can elicit such a radically different reaction (clearly the effect of seething racism ; )

I like Obama's insinuation that the GOP is actually helping ISIS by supporting the ISIS position that they are holy warriors in defense of Islam.
I think, though, that he needs to go further and use words like "aiding and abetting" when it comes the the GOP wanting to brand this struggle as a war against Islam. In other words, Obama needs to put in a raise by introducing the whole notion of treason when it comes to the GOP position on this.
That Chuck Todd video is right on the money. I'm just worried that the points Obama is making are going to be drowned out by all the GOP fuckery on this issue. That's why Obama needs to follow David Mamet's advice and put in a big raise and actually say the the GOP is doing their best to provide aid and comfort to the enemy. That would put Republicans on the defensive.
