Historic Quote of the Week

“If Dick Lugar -- having served five terms in the U.S. Senate and being the most respected person in the Senate and the leading authority on foreign policy -- is seriously challenged by anybody in the Republican Party, we have gone so far overboard that we are beyond redemption.”
- John C. Danforth, a former GOP senator from Missouri, in 2010.

I guess the Republican Party is way beyond redemption at this point:  Tea-Bagger Richard Mourdock easily defeated Lugar in yesterday's GOP primary in Indiana.

Senator Lugar, in his concession statement, warned that Mourdock's "rejectionist orthodoxy" and "unrelenting partisan mindset" would lead to even more gridlock. Mourdock's response:
Well, what I've said is that I certainly think bipartisanship ought to consist of Democrats coming to the Republican point of view. [...] Bipartisanship means they have to come our way....
Well, a hearty Sieg Heil to you too, Asshole.
