Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, under fire from congressional Democrats and even some Republicans, announced Monday that he has resigned from his post.Although the Bush Regime has tried to make it sound like a last-minute thing that just developed over the weekend, it appears to me that this has been in the works for some time, with the plan being to have him step down in late August while everyone is vacationing and thus paying little attention to the news.
“It has been one of my greatest privileges to lead the Department of Justice,” Gonzales said at a news conference, announcing his resignation effective Sept. 17.
The most interesting part of all this will, of course, be the confirmation hearings for whomever Bush picks to replace Gonzales.
