The announcement of this latest NYC threat was particular suspicious given that (1) Homeland Security came right out and admitted that was of "doubtful credibility;" and (2) Bush "coincidently" gave a "major" speech on Iraq and terrorism this morning wherein he said a lot of scary things * * *. [G]iven the timing of all this, I'm just not buying it, George -- not this time.OK, I admit predicting that a Bush-spawned terror threat might be bogus is akin to predicting that the sun will rise in the east tomorrow. That being said, it did, of course, turn out that the whole New York subway threat was complete bullshit.
The Bush Administration really has this fake-terror-threat scam down to a fine art. What BushCo did with the New York subway threat is (1) "announce" the existence of the threat, and then (2) immediately say that the threat is of "doubtful credibility." That way, when local officials respond to the "threat" by elevating security -- something that pretty much any local official would do in the Post-Katrina Era -- the Bush Regime can always say that it mentioned the doubtful credibility of the threat when it inevitably turns out to be bogus.
Meanwhile, reports of the threat end up dominating media coverage, despite the fact that the whole thing was fabricated. The recent maneuver regarding the NYC subways had Karl Rove's name written all over it.
Well, fortunately for us, there are some people in the Mainstream Media who just aren't buying this crap anymore, and Keith Olbermann over at MSNBC is leading the pack. Last night on his program, Olbermann put up a list of several of what he called "coincidences," namely, political downturns for the Bush administration followed by a “terror event,” i.e., a change in alert status, an arrest, a warning. Anyway, his list is definitely worth checking out.
It is stuff like this that illustrates exactly why our current administration fails so miserably in pretty much everything it does. I mean, these people put enormous amounts of effort into political maneuvering and apparently very little time into actually running the country.
The list of ridiculous BushCo political maneuverings is practically endless: phony terror alerts to distract the American people from BushCo political woes; intentionally engaging in the treasonous act of outing a covert CIA operative in order to retaliate against a critic; fake turkeys in Iraq; phony food distribution points in Katrina's wake; a pretend ranch in Crawford; Bush's "unrehearsed" pep talk to the troops today, complete with a rehearsal (I didn't make the last one up -- go check it for yourselves); etc. etc. etc.
Sure, every politician does this type of thing from time to time, but BushCo seems to be engaging in this kind of activity pretty much around the clock. At first I merely found it annoying and kind of silly. Now, I consider it a national embarrassment.
