More BushCo Lies

Over the weekend, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff insisted that government officials could have not have anticipated the levee breaches that flooded New Orleans. Although it was obvious that Chertoff was following the G.O.P. talking points and trying to re-write the history of this disaster, I did think it was at least possible that Chertoff and other BushCo officials were merely incompetent and perhaps they didn't bother to keep themselves informed on important issues affecting the safety of our nation. But after reading this, it is now pretty clear to me that Chertoff is a God-Damned Liar:

Dr. Max Mayfield, director of the National Hurricane Center, told the Times-Picayune Sunday afternoon that officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, including FEMA Director Mike Brown and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, listened in on electronic briefings given by his staff in advance of Hurricane Katrina slamming Louisiana and Mississippi--and were advised of the storm’s potential deadly effects.

"Mayfield said the strength of the storm and the potential disaster it could bring were made clear during both the briefings and in formal advisories, which warned of a storm surge capable of overtopping levees in New Orleans and winds strong enough to blow out windows of high-rise buildings," the paper reported. "He said the briefings included information on expected wind speed, storm surge, rainfall and the potential for tornados to accompany the storm as it came ashore.

And get a load of this report from German TV (via Buzzflash):

ZDF News reported that the president's visit was a completely staged event. Their crew witnessed how the open air food distribution point Bush visited in front of the cameras was torn down immediately after the president and the herd of 'news people' had left and that others which were allegedly being set up were abandoned at the same time.

Does it make me sick that people who could have been out there helping Katrina survivors were busy setting up and manning fake food distribution points so that Bush could get his photo-op? Sure it does. Am I surprised by this? No.

I wonder if these same people helped Bush set up his fake ranch in Crawford. Do you think the people who were pretending to run these fraudulent food distribution points were serving fake turkey?
